Photography with God: The Father of Lights

James 1:17
Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow.

One occurrence that truly fascinates me is the sunrise. I think that the sunset also manifests the same beauty, but unlike sunset, brighter light comes after the sunrise. Sunrise preludes a magnificent show of God’s creation. It drives the darkness away to reveal a wondrous view of the earth’s picturesque colors and structures. Light is also the major element in photography that’s why we can capture, store and process images. I don’t know how much sunrise I have actually seen in all my years but every time I catch one, it always drives me without fail to be awed at how good God is. It actually buries all the darkness of life and replaces it with hope and fulfillment.

James 1:17 depicts GOD as the Father of Lights where good and perfect gift comes from and with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow. Genesis 1:3 tells that God created light by His words and He saw that it was good. No one can argue that light is no good at all. God created light for our good. It allows and helps us to see – so that we can recognize each other, work during the day, know where we’re going and appreciate God’s creation. And like the sun that shines to light the earth is also the goodness and gift that God gives to us. The first truth here is, God is the source of every good thing in our lives and even those perfect gifts. I believe that there is nothing bad or unpleasant that comes from Him. All those “not good” things that happen to us are brought by us because of our own wrongdoings.

I remember how God supported me during my scarce days. God had never left me empty. Every moment He showed up was at a perfect timing. He gives to me the things I need just exactly as when I needed it. God answers prayers, provides our need, promotes, uplifts and leads us just at the perfect place and time as we seek Him.
Secondly, God doesn’t change. He always remains true to His promises and everything that He said in His words. God radiates His goodness unlike the sun which we know is the source of our light. The sun can only light a certain part of the earth at a particular time. It appears in the horizon then disappears. It fully shines at day but is also blocked by the clouds or by the moon at times. But God is not like the sun. He is way brighter than all the stars in the universe combined. He is infinite, knows and sees everything. 1 Timothy 6:16 tells us that He’s the only one death can’t touch; His light is so bright that no one can get close. He’s never been seen by human eyes-because human eyes can’t take him in. He is all powerful and eternal.

Difficult circumstances in our lives shouldn’t change the way we think about God. We maybe are in a difficult situation but that doesn’t make God a cold blooded god. We may not feel cared or loved but it doesn’t mean that God is callous. The truth is that God’s love toward us remains the same and nothing can separate us from it (Romans 8-35-39). Things around us may not seem to make any sense despite all our hard work but God knows it and I know that He cares and has prepared to show us the meaning of everything if we can just wait.

God radiates love, and only love for all of us. We can trust the Father of lights. The source of everything good and perfect – our God who is always true
